It probably isn't too difficult to find scrapple in Lancaster, Pennsylvania -- possibly the heart of Pennsynvania Dutch Country. But it certainly doesn't hurt to know a few go-to locations when you're riding your buggy through town and absolutely need your scrapple fix. Based on the reviews from the Travel Channel, the Neptune Diner might be such that place.

You love scrapple. If you could, you would eat it every day (maybe you do). But part of your job as a scrapple eater is to spread the love.

So what's the best technique for introducing scrapple newbies to this delicious, but often misunderstood meat? Here are a few suggestions.

1. Play It Cool
Don't make a big deal about how awesome scrapple is. It will only lead to questions, and in this case, questions are our enemy. The less newbies know before eating scrapple, the better.

Just offer to make breakfast. Nothing special, no big deal.

Scrapple lover, Steph, sent me this scrapple story about the first time she was wowed by our favorite breakfast meat. Not surprisingly, it happened late one night while drunk in a diner. Oh, if I had a nickel for every time I've heard that one...

So where does the word scrapple come from?

"Scrapple? It’s made from the scraps of the pig left over after they make all the other meat.  Scraps…scrapple. Get it?"

Seems an easy enough explanation, right? And completely wrong, according to William Woys Weaver in his book, Country Scrapple.
